Do you install hardwood flooring in West Michigan?

Yes. We supply and install both solid hardwood and engineered hardwood throughout our West Michigan service area. Hardwood is a long-term investment that adds real value to your home — and with Michigan's seasonal humidity swings, we'll guide you toward the right species and finish that holds up year-round. Visit our showroom in Hart, MI to see current samples and get a free measurement scheduled.

What is luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring and is it right for my home?

Luxury vinyl plank is a waterproof, multi-layer synthetic flooring product that realistically mimics the look of hardwood or stone. It's one of the most popular flooring choices we install across West Michigan — and for good reason.

LVP holds up well to:

- Pets and kids

- Michigan winters — salt, sand, and moisture tracked in from outside

- Lake house and basement environments where moisture is a concern

- High-traffic areas like kitchens, mudrooms, and entryways

It's also significantly more affordable than solid hardwood and installs faster. If you're comparing options, we're happy to walk you through both side by side in our Hart showroom.

Do you supply and install countertops for kitchens and bathrooms?

Yes. We supply and install a range of countertop surfaces including quartz, laminate, and solid surface options for kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms. Whether you're doing a full kitchen remodel or simply replacing worn countertops, we'll help you choose a surface that's durable, good-looking, and fits your budget. Installation is handled by our own team — no subcontracting.

Do you offer tile installation in West Michigan?

Yes. We install tile for bathroom floors, shower surrounds, kitchen backsplashes, entryways, and more. We work with porcelain, ceramic, and natural stone tile in a wide range of sizes and finishes. Tile installation is one of the more involved flooring jobs — grout lines, substrate prep, and waterproofing matter — so having an experienced installer makes a real difference. Our team has handled hundreds of tile projects across Muskegon, Hart, Ludington, and the surrounding area.

Do you sell and install window treatments?

Yes. Beyond flooring, we offer a full range of window blinds and shades for both residential and commercial spaces. We handle everything from selection and measurement to professional installation. We also repair existing blinds — so if your current blinds are damaged but not beyond saving, call us before replacing them.

Do you work on commercial flooring projects?

Yes. We serve homeowners, business owners, property managers, and contractors across West Michigan. Commercial-grade carpet, LVP, and tile are available in options rated for high foot traffic and heavy use. If you're outfitting an office, retail space, rental property, or multi-unit building, call us for a commercial quote — (231) 873-5440.

Scheduling & Estimates

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes — always. We offer free in-home measurements and estimates across our entire West Michigan service area, including Muskegon, Hart, Ludington, Whitehall, Montague, Shelby, Fremont, and surrounding communities. We come to your home, measure the space, walk you through your product options, and give you clear pricing before you commit to anything. No pressure, no surprises.

How do I schedule a free measurement or estimate?

Three easy ways:

1. Call us directly at (231) 873-5440 — Mon–Fri 9am–5pm, Sat 9am–1pm

2. Schedule online at wmcarpet.com/appointments

3. Stop into our showroom at 911 S State St, Hart, MI 49420

We'll confirm a time that works for you and send someone out to measure and assess your space.

How long does flooring installation take?

It depends on the product and square footage, but here are general timelines for common projects:

- Carpet installation: Most rooms completed in a single day

- Luxury vinyl plank (LVP): 1–2 days for average-sized homes

- Hardwood installation: 2–3 days, plus acclimation time before install

- Tile installation: 2–4 days depending on area size and pattern complexity

- Countertop installation: Typically 1 day for standard layouts

We'll give you a specific timeline during your free estimate so you can plan accordingly. For larger whole-home projects, we'll schedule in phases to minimize disruption.

Do I need to be home during installation?

We ask that an adult homeowner or designated representative be present at the start of installation so we can walk through the plan together. For longer multi-day projects, we can work with you on access arrangements. Our team is fully vetted, and we treat your home with the same care we'd give our own.

Do you handle furniture moving?

We recommend clearing the installation area before our team arrives to keep the job moving efficiently. For heavy or large pieces, let us know in advance and we can discuss options. We'll always be upfront about what's included in your project scope.

Pricing & Financing

How much does new flooring cost in West Michigan?

Flooring costs vary based on product type, square footage, subfloor condition, and installation complexity. Here are rough starting ranges to give you a general idea:

- Carpet: $3–$8 per sq ft installed (varies by fiber and pad)

- Luxury Vinyl Plank: $4–$9 per sq ft installed

- Laminate: $4–$8 per sq ft installed

- Hardwood: $8–$15+ per sq ft installed depending on species

- Tile: $6–$14 per sq ft installed depending on tile size and pattern

- Countertops: $40–$100+ per linear ft depending on material

The best way to get an accurate number is a free in-home measurement — we'll assess your exact space and give you a firm quote before any work begins.

Can I get a quote over the phone or online?

We can give you a ballpark range based on your square footage and product preferences, but for an accurate quote we recommend a free in-home measurement. Subfloor conditions, room layout, transitions, and material choices all affect the final price — and we'd rather give you a number you can count on than a rough guess that turns into a surprise later.

Maintenance & Warranty

How do I care for luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring?

LVP is one of the easiest flooring types to maintain. Regular sweeping or vacuuming (no beater bar) removes dirt and grit. For cleaning, use a damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner — avoid harsh chemicals, steam mops, or excessive water. LVP is waterproof, but standing water at seams over extended periods can cause issues. Felt pads under furniture legs help prevent surface scratching.

How do I care for hardwood floors in Michigan's climate?

Michigan's seasonal humidity changes are the biggest challenge for hardwood floors. In winter, indoor air gets very dry and wood can contract and show small gaps — this is normal. A humidifier set to 35–55% relative humidity helps minimize this. In summer, avoid letting excess moisture sit on the floor.

For daily care: sweep or dust mop regularly, use a hardwood-specific cleaner (never steam mop), and wipe up spills immediately. Avoid wet mopping. Area rugs at entryways catch the salt, sand, and moisture that Michigan winters track in — your floors will thank you.

How do I care for tile flooring?

Tile is very low maintenance. Sweep or vacuum regularly to prevent grit from scratching the surface. Mop with warm water and a mild tile cleaner as needed. The grout is where most maintenance attention goes — seal grout lines every 1–2 years to prevent staining and moisture absorption, especially in bathrooms and kitchens. Avoid acidic cleaners on natural stone tile.

How do I care for carpet?

Vacuum at least once a week — more often in high-traffic areas or homes with pets. Treat spills immediately by blotting (never rubbing) with a clean cloth. Professional carpet cleaning every 12–18 months extends the life of your carpet significantly. Use doormats at all entries to reduce the amount of dirt and salt tracked onto carpet, especially during Michigan winters.

Do your products come with a warranty?

Yes. All flooring, countertop, and window treatment products we carry are backed by manufacturer warranties — coverage varies by brand and product line. We also stand behind the quality of our installation work. If something isn't right after we install it, call us and we'll make it right. That's been our standard since 1959 and it's not changing.

What areas of West Michigan do you serve?

Hart, Muskegon, Ludington, Whitehall, Montague, Shelby, Pentwater, Fremont, Scottville, Silver Lake, Hesperia, Rothbury, and New Era — plus surrounding communities throughout West Michigan.

Not sure if we cover your area? Call us at (231) 873-5440 and we'll let you know.

Are you a family-owned business?

Yes — proudly. West Michigan Carpet and Floor was founded by Roy Griffis in 1959 and is still family-owned and operated today by Jared Griffis (40+ years of installation experience), his wife Pam, and their son Caleb. We're not a franchise or a chain. When you call us, you're talking to the people who will actually show up at your home and do the work.

Why should I choose West Michigan Carpet and Floor over a big box store?

A few honest reasons:

- We measure your space ourselves — no guessing from square footage you provide

- We stock and install — you're not coordinating between a store that sells and a contractor who installs

- We know West Michigan homes — lake houses, farmhouses, older Michigan builds with uneven subfloors — we've seen it all

- You talk to the same people start to finish — Pam answers the phone, Jared or Caleb does the estimate, our crew does the install

- We've been doing this since 1959 — we're not going anywhere

Big box stores sell volume. We sell craftsmanship and accountability.
